"Ying" means English, and "Hua" means Chinese. Together, "YingHua" means blossom, the essence of a plant, which is a best name for a Chinese-English bilingual school like YingHua Day School (YHDS). While YHDS aims to capture the best of both worlds, the founder of the school, Dr. Bonnie Liao, embodies many of the excellent qualities nurtured by the two cultures and societies.
Born and raised in Beijing, China, Dr. Liao received her master's degrees and Ph.D. in the U.S. She treasures her cultural heritage and is also passionate about the endless possibilities in this land of dreams. On May 4th, 2002, Dr. Liao founded "YingHua Language School(YHLS)", the first Chinese school in N.J. that fully adopted "Ma Li Ping Approach", an advanced and proven approach for Chinese language learning. YHLS was also the very first community school in the U.S. that was accredited by The Commission on Secondary Schools of the Middle States Association (CSS-MSA).
In June 2007, Dr. Liao founded YingHua Day School, a non-profit full-time private school that offers a full curriculum following the International Baccalaureate (IB) framework in both English and Chinese, realizing a long-time dream of providing quality bilingual education to students of the new millennium.
廖冰博士是英华语言学校及英华日校的创始人。二零零二年五月四日廖博士在新州创立了非营利的“英华语言学校”，是新州第一所全部使用“马立平直接认字法”教学的中文学校，学习效果显著。此校也是全美第一所获得美国中区中学委员会（The Commission on Secondary Schools of the Middle States Association，简称CSS-MSA） 认证的社区学校。廖冰博士不断进取的心和无限的精力激励着和她志同道合的人，经过一段时间的积极筹备，在二零零七年的夏天成立了美国东岸第一所非营利、全日制的中英双语学校，结合“国际文凭”丰富的课程，和“浸入式”的语言习得法，给三岁以上的学龄儿童提供全时、全科、全人的双语教育。
