This is the 5th
week of our Summer Program. Most of the students have come out of their “silent
stage” and started incorporating Chinese words in their daily conversation.
More advanced students try to formulate sentences in Chinese, while others try
the “fill-in-the-blanks” tactics. Either
way, they are coming closer to the name of “bilingual kids” day by day. “Brown
Bear Brown Bear” proves to be a popular book, and it comes to life with the
hands-on props made by our talented teacher, Liu Laoshi. Our part-time teacher,
Hong Laoshi, had a wonderful review session on two pairs of Chinese characters.
Her multi-media approach has engaged the attention of all students.
Next week we will
start a series on fruit, and the book we will use is “Very Hungry
Caterpillar”. We ask each child to bring
in one kind of fruit everyday, such as apple, peach, or banana, which will be
shared with the whole group (about 8-9 students daily). Please avoid anything
with small pits, such as cherry. While
we feature two types of fruit each day, what you child brings does not need to
coincide with them.
Enjoy the summer and
have fun with your child(ren)!
