1: 2009-05-22 Welcome to the new YHFA website and Swimming Update/ WCC music courses catalogue on lineYHFA now has it's own space on the YHIS website. We'll expand more information about YHFA, our events, committees (Community Service, Public Relations, Strategic Planning), and our commitment to strong parent/guardian/grandparent/caregiver involvement in the coming months. Family support and active involvement in YHIS and our dual-language Chinese/English immersion within the International Baccalaureate framework is essential for our kids, families, teachers, and staff.
Class parents are querying a follow-up on after-school swim lessons at Can-Do with you via email. There are only a few more openings! Last, the Westminster Conservatory after-school and Saturday music class schedule is online in a .pdf format at : http://www.rider.edu/887_3931.htm . You can peruse the musical offerings for our kids. We will add more specials in the coming months at YHIS. As always, keep your terrific suggestions, compliments, and ideas coming in our monthly YHFA meetings or via email. Thanks for all your efforts in making YHIS a unique and wonderful international learning community.
Have a great summer,
Stuart /YHFA President
2: 2009-09-21 Welcome to the Fall Semester at YHISIt's the first day of fall and we welcome our YHIS families new and returning, educators, and staff to our elementary and pre-school campuses and before- and after-school programs. A big thank you/hsieh-hsieh ni mun to our lead administrators, Dr. Liao, Ms. Zhao, Ms. Ahagotu, and Ms. Tan, and our teachers and administrative support staff, whose countless hours of hard work show in the skills our kids demonstrate in Chinese, English, Math, Science, and the International Baccalaureate Units of Inquiry. Gong xi gong xi to all.
YHFA is busy reconstituting our board and committees--if you have not done so, please get your parent/guardian survey into Ms. Zhao ASAP. We will have our regular YHFA meeting Tuesday, October 6 from 7-8 pm via teleconference. Class parent Annie will send info. to all parents/guardians on how to access the teleconference. Please bring your ideas for our committees--Community Service/Excursions, Fundraising, Public Relations, and Strategic Planning and any other issues you'd like for us to address as we lay the groundwork for the year in this meeting via the phone lines so our most distant families can easily participate along with those right in town.
As for specials, the Can-Do swim class continues with 11 students enrolled on Wednesdays from 5-6pm. Lisa has organized a gymnastics class and contact her directly for kids' and adult versions. If there is interest, Miriam can be contacted to again organize tennis lessons.
Our Bilingual book fair at YHIS and Mid-Autumn Festival Celebration in Philly are both Sept. 26. Everyone is encouraged to participate in both. The Mid-Autumn festival was a big success last year and Jeffrey has been asked to do another amazing YHIS banner for us all to march behind at 6pm in the parade (bring your lanterns and all are welcome to this free event). Families who'd like to gather for dinner will do so at Rangoon restaurant for Burmese cuisine if you have contacted Annie with how many are planning on having dinner so that Stuart can make the reservation.
Here's to a great year,
Stuart, YHFA President
